The Eagle Pharmacy on Bohaterów Getta Square in Krakow had been operating since the beginning of the 20th century, and from 1909 it belonged to Józef Pankiewicz, after whom it was taken over by his son Tadeusz. Before the war, it served both Poles and Jews from Podgórze. After the ghetto was established in 1941, it was the only pharmacy in the area, and Pankiewicz was the only Pole authorised to reside permanently in the ghetto.

The pharmacy became a centre of intellectual life and assistance: medicines and means of avoiding deportation were provided, the wounded were treated, people and objects were hidden, and food and information were smuggled. Pankiewicz and his colleagues helped Jews, risking their own lives.

The Eagle Pharmacy is an authentic place of help and resistance in the Kraków ghetto, showing the daily life and drama of its inhabitants.
