The Eagle Pharmacy on Plac Bohaterów Getta (Ghetto Heroes Square) in Kraków opened in the early 20th century. From 1909, it belonged to Józef Pankiewicz, who was later succeeded by his son Tadeusz. Before the Second World War, the pharmacy served both Polish and Jewish residents of Podgórze. When the Nazis turned the area into the Kraków Ghetto in 1941, the Eagle Pharmacy found itself within its boundaries. It was the only pharmacy in the ghetto, and Tadeusz Pankiewicz was the only non-Jewish resident allowed to live there permanently.

The pharmacy became a place of help, resistance and human contact. It provided medicines and information, treated the wounded, hid people and personal belongings, and helped to smuggle food and messages into the ghetto. It was also a place where people could meet and exchange news. Helping Jewish residents of the ghetto meant great personal risk to Tadeusz Pankiewicz and his colleagues.

A branch of the Museum of Kraków, the Eagle Pharmacy is an authentic place of memory, showing the everyday life, suffering, and courage of people in the Kraków Ghetto.

Information for people with disabilities

Parking & Parking spaces
There are no parking spaces for people with disabilities. There is a paid car park in the vicinity. Visitors with a valid disabled parking permit park for free.

Customer Service Centre/Reception
The ticket office is located in the building next door and is accessed by three steps. An induction loop is available at the ticket office.

Barrier-free route
The administrative and conference area and the ticket office are accessible to wheelchair users. The museum exhibition is located on the ground floor. There are two steps at the street entrance and no fixed ramp. Portable ramps can be provided: if you need this service, please contact the branch staff in advance.

Toilet
A toilet for persons with disabilities is located next to the ticket office in the administrative section.

Service for deaf visitors (PJM/SJM interpretation)
An induction loop is available at the ticket office.
The Museum of Kraków offers guided tours with a Polish Sign Language (PJM/SJM) interpreter at all its branches. Please book this service in advance.

Assistance dogs
In all its branches, the Museum of Kraków welcomes people with disabilities accompanied by assistance dogs.
