Podgórze Museum

Podgórze Museum  is located in a building traditionally known as Zajazd pod św. Benedyktem (St Benedict Inn). It was built at the end of the 18th century, shortly after Podgórze was granted the status of a free city, as part of a complex belonging to the merchant Józef Haller.

In the 19th century, the building served various purposes, notably a military hospital and military facility. In 1918, it was one of the first buildings on Polish soil to be liberated. Between the two world wars and during the Second World War, it was used for industrial and detention purposes. After the Second World War, it served as a residential and utility building. The plans to demolish it were never carried out.

The decision to establish the Museum of Podgórze there originated in 2008. After a thorough renovation, the building was adapted for use as a modern museum and placed under the care of the Museum of Kraków.

Information for people with disabilities

Parking & Parking spaces 
There is one parking space for people with disabilities in the courtyard, near the entrance.  

Customer Service Centre/Reception 
The ticket desk is located in the main hall and is wheelchair accessible, with a lowered section of the counter. An induction loop is available at the ticket desk.

Barrier-free route 
Step-free access. The exhibition and office spaces, corridors, passageways, and doors on each floor are accessible and free of obstacles.

Lift 
Passenger lift operates in the visitor area. Cabin dimensions: 1.58 × 2.10 m. Buttons with Braille markings. A wheelchair platform is available in the administrative area.  

Toilets 
Toilets for persons with disabilities are located 1) on the ground floor, next to the ticket office, and 2) on the first floor of the administrative section, next to the offices.

Service for deaf visitors (PJM/SJM interpretation)
An induction loop is available at the ticket office.
The Museum of Kraków offers guided tours with a Polish Sign Language (PJM/SJM) interpreter at all its branches. Please book this service in advance.  

Assistance dogs 
In all its branches, the Museum of Kraków welcomes people with disabilities accompanied by assistance dogs.
